When you think of a wrinkle, you probably don’t think of it as having a type. Instead, you simply notice an unsightly and unwelcome facial flaw.

However, in the medical field, wrinkles are categorized into types. There are two main categories of wrinkle: dynamic and static. Dynamic wrinkles are wrinkles that are not always present. These wrinkles only form when the facial muscles are being used, which causes the skin on top of them to crinkle and fold. Think about how your skin’s appearance is altered when you change expressions. The first recommended treatment of dynamic wrinkles is Botox, primarily in the forehead and the sides of the eyes.

Static wrinkles, on the other hand, are always present, whether the facial muscles are in use or not. These wrinkles are the result of repeated facial muscle use over the years, sun damage, and the effects of aging on the skin. Treatment of these can be low tech, such as microneedling, or higher tech, such as CO2 Laser Resurfacing.
